Start by re-running the check that scared you, on the other channel. If 668 showed the stray entry, open cnic.sims.pk and compare; if the portal flagged it, SMS your 13-digit CNIC to 668 for about Rs 2 and read the reply against the screen. The portal is free, works worldwide, and shows activation dates, which is precisely the detail investigators ask for later. One odd reading can be a glitch. Two matching readings are a fact.

Rule out the innocent explanations
Most scares dissolve here, so give this stage five honest minutes. That dusty data SIM from a 2019 dongle still counts against you. So does the number you bought for a parent or a younger sibling, because the registry follows the CNIC that signed, not the pocket the SIM lives in. A ported number shows under its current operator too, which means an old Jazz line that moved to Zong sits in the Zong column looking like a stranger.
Ask the family before assuming fraud. A two-minute call has closed more of these cases than any helpline ever will. Document before you dispute
Screenshot the 668 reply and the portal listing on the day you find them, timestamps visible. Note the operator, the count, and the activation date if the portal shows one. Save copies off the phone as well. The handset holding your evidence is rarely the safest vault.

The fraud route: 1799 plus the franchise, same week
Treat the situation differently the moment something has been done in your name: a loan app, a threatening call traced back, a police contact, or activity in a city you have never visited. Call 1799 or file at complaint.nccia.gov.pk, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s channels, live since 3 June 2025. Then still visit the franchise the same week, so the SIM stops answering while the case proceeds.

The 365-day lock, and why speed matters
PTA’s advisory of 24 May 2026 put a 365-day lock on disowning and transferring newly issued SIMs, a brake aimed at fraudsters who churn numbers through borrowed identities. The side effect lands on victims. A brand-new entry on your CNIC may not clear at the counter the way an old one will, which makes the fraud report, not the franchise slip, the document that carries your case.
Speed is the counter-move. Report inside the first week and the record shows a victim acting; sit on it for months and you are explaining the delay instead of the SIM.
After-care: close the loop, make it monthly
Once the franchise confirms the removal, wait a few days and re-run both checks. The stray entry should vanish from the 668 reply and the portal alike. If it lingers, go back with your reference slip, and take the operator’s name to PTA’s 0800-55055 line when the counter stalls.
