That is the entire Zong number check, about ten seconds of work, and for most Zong users it simply answers. What the dial will not do
- It will not name the owner of another number. No code does that, on any network, and neither do the live tracker apps that charge for the promise.
- It will not list the SIMs on your CNIC. That is the registry’s job, through 668.
- It will not say which network another number sits on. 76367 answers that one.
- It will not report your biometric status. That is V to 7911, further down this page.

Is *8# an official Zong number check code?
Partly, and the detail matters. Zong’s consumer pages carry no Zong number check code at all. But Zong’s Mobile Broadband user guide prints *8# in a table row headed “Show MBB Number”, ticked for the Zong master number, the MBB number itself and the device web interface. So the dial is published by Zong, for a data device, and borrowed by handset users ever since.
We went looking for that citation because every other Zong page on the Pakistani web asserts one and cites nothing. On 5 August 2026 we fetched Zong’s own pages and read them line by line. The dial appears in Zong’s published material exactly once, in the user guide for its Mobile Broadband devices.
So it is not folklore. It is also not a consumer own-number code Zong has committed to. It is a documented Zong dial doing a job Zong never wrote down, which is precisely why the app stays behind it.

Dating a claim is the whole point of writing it down. Undocumented dials retire quietly and the code lists never notice, which is how a dead code survives online for years. My Zong, 310 and the numbers Zong publishes
Zong keeps several channels of its own, and these are the ones worth memorising. My Zong puts your Zong number at the head of the account screen once you are logged in. Helpline 310 from the SIM reaches an interactive voice menu around the clock. From any other network or a landline, the UAN is (051) 111-222-111.
The My Zong catch nobody mentions. Zong’s own sign-up instruction is to enter your number without its leading zero, in the shape 31XXXXXXXX, after which a PIN arrives by SMS. That is fine when you are adding a second line. It is circular when the number is the very thing you have lost. So to check Zong number on a fresh or forgotten SIM, the order is dial first, app second.
Once you are in, the app holds up to five Zong numbers at a time and runs in English, Urdu and Chinese. That third language is a quiet reminder that Zong trades as CMPak, China Mobile’s Pakistani business.

Only Jazz puts its own-number dial on a consumer page. Zong at least prints its dial somewhere on its own site. The remaining two ride on habit alone, which is why the app and the helpline carry the weight. The same labelling runs through the Telenor and Ufone guides, and the master code sheet keeps all six networks current.
Why is *8# not working on my Zong SIM?
Nearly every silent Zong number check comes down to five things: the code went out from the wrong slot of a dual-SIM handset, the phone has no usable signal, a VPN or call-screening app has swallowed the session, the SIM is a data-only Mobile Broadband card with voice disabled, or the connection is newly activated and still provisioning. Work through those in order before deciding the code has retired.

If all six lines fail you, stop dialling. Ring 310 from the SIM, or take the SIM and your original CNIC to a Zong counter. A SIM that answers nothing and carries no service is worth checking against the blocked SIM guide, because a blocked or unverified connection behaves exactly like a dead code.
Where is the number on a Zong MBB or data-only SIM?
It is printed on the SIM jacket packed with the device, and Zong asks you to keep that jacket because the number is needed for every recharge and bundle. If the jacket has gone, open the device web interface at 192.168.8.1 and choose Show MBB Number, or use the Zong master number linked to the device. Voice is disabled on these SIMs, so you cannot simply ring a friend.
This is the part of the Zong story no Zong number check guide covers, and Zong is the network where it bites hardest. A Zong Mobile Broadband device ships with its own data-only SIM. Zong states plainly that this SIM cannot be used in a mobile phone, because voice is blocked on it while internet and messaging stay enabled.
When you buy the device Zong asks for a master number, which may be your Zong handset number or a number on another network. That master number then becomes the remote control for the data SIM.

The quota consequence. That data-only SIM is registered on your CNIC like any other connection, and it takes one of your three data slots inside the national cap of eight. Two Zong data devices plus a data SIM in a tablet fills the data half of your quota outright, and the next SIM you try to buy is refused at the counter for a reason nobody explains at the time.

How do I get a Zong eSIM, and what does it cost?
Not from your sofa. Zong requires a visit to a Customer Service Centre or franchise, where you either take a fresh number through Book Your Number or convert a Zong number you already hold. Biometric verification comes first. Zong then maps the number to an eSIM profile and hands over a paper voucher carrying a QR code. Zong lists the charge as Rs 2000 at its Customer Service Centres.
Scanning is the easy half. The handset needs internet or Wi-Fi first. On an iPhone you open Settings, then Cellular, then Add Cellular Plan, and point the camera at the voucher. On Android the path is Settings, then SIM Card Manager, then eSIM, then Add Mobile Plan. Zong says you may re-scan the same QR code if you change handset or delete the profile, and it asks you not to share that code with anyone, which is sound advice given what a stray profile represents.
Two routes, two different records. A Book Your Number eSIM is a new activation. It lands on your CNIC, it counts against your eight, and it carries the 365-day lock on transferring or disowning that PTA set out in its advisory of 24 May 2026, exactly as a plastic SIM would.
Converting a number you already own is handled as a SIM replacement rather than a new connection, and Zong states your existing services and tariffs carry across to the eSIM profile. Both routes need biometric verification before activation, so both need you and your original CNIC in the building.
Supported handsets, as Zong lists them, begin at iPhone XR and run forward, and take in Google Pixel 3 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Z-series, several Huawei P and Mate flagships and a handful of Oppo Find and Reno models. Zong biometric status: V to 7911
One letter, one number. SMS V to 7911 from the Zong SIM. The reply reports that SIM’s biometric verification status. It is the shortest BVS check of the four networks. Unlike a Zong number check dial, it sits in the fingerprint layer PTA actually oversees.
An unverified result routes you to a Zong counter with your original CNIC and the finger that matches it. Fifteen minutes, live thumb, done. Keep two facts apart while you read the reply: a SIM being biometrically verified and a SIM being registered to you are different things, and only 668 settles the second.

What do I need to take to a Zong franchise?
Your original CNIC and the finger that matches it. Zong’s published PTA guidelines say the seller scans your thumb or finger on a designated biometric scanner and sends that impression with your CNIC number for verification against NADRA, and that a successfully verified SIM is activated within 24 hours. A change of ownership needs both people present, each with an original CNIC.
Zong applies the same counter procedure to a new activation, a duplicate SIM and a change of ownership. Foreign nationals and returning Pakistanis are covered too: Zong’s guidelines accept an original passport with a valid visa, a Pakistan Origin Card or a NADRA-issued POR card in place of a CNIC.
Only Zong’s own Customer Sales and Service Centres, authorised franchises and registered retailers may issue a connection at all. That is why a SIM bought loose from a roadside stall is a problem waiting to surface on your CNIC.
How far away is a Zong counter?
Zong lists 8 Customer Service Centres, in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Karachi Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Sukkur and Quetta, alongside 446 franchises spread over 354 named locations. The franchise split runs 137 in the North, 88 and 96 across the two Central regions, and 125 in the South. Set that against 55,600,136 Zong subscribers as of June 2026, per PTA telecom indicators, and it works out at roughly one Zong counter for every 122,000 subscribers.
That ratio is the practical reason a franchise visit eats an afternoon. Zong is the second largest network in the country, holding a little over a quarter of Pakistan’s 208,057,255 mobile subscribers as of June 2026, and it serves them through fewer than 460 outlets. Three habits save you the second trip:
- Ring 310 first and confirm the specific outlet handles biometric re-verification, ownership changes and eSIM, because a small franchise may not do all three.
- Go on a weekday morning. Listed hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm, with Rawalpindi to 7:00pm, a 1:00pm to 3:00pm break and Sunday closed.
- Ask the price before anything is processed, and take the receipt. PTA caps the disowning fee at Rs 200, but a SIM replacement charge is commercial and varies. We could not find a current replacement price published on Zong’s site on 5 August 2026, so treat any figure quoted on a blog as gossip until the counter confirms it.

Zong prefixes and the porting caveat
Zong’s traditional homes are two ranges, 0310–0319 and 0360–0369. Two blocks rather than one already defeats the prefix-guessers. Then it gets worse, because the published lists disagree with each other. Since 2024 several Pakistani code lists have added 0370 and 0371 to Zong, while others hand the whole 037X block to Ufone and its ONIC brand. We found no consumer-facing table from PTA or Zong that settles it, as of 5 August 2026.
Porting finishes off whatever certainty survives. Numbers move networks while the digits stay put, so a 0312 may live on Jazz and a 0301 on Zong. A prefix is a hint about where a number was born, never a statement about where it lives now, and after two decades of portability the hint has gone stale.
When the network actually matters, for a recharge or an on-net bundle, spend the two rupees. Send N plus the number to 76367. Format and edge cases sit in the 76367 guide. Guessing costs more, in silence.
Counting your Zong SIMs the registry way
Zong cannot tell you what your CNIC carries across networks. Only the registry can. No “pak sim data” database can either, whatever it advertises. SMS your 13-digit CNIC to 668 for about Rs 2, or use the free cnic.sims.pk portal. Read Zong’s line beside the rest. Then check the total against the cap of eight the Supreme Court set on 5 November 2015: five voice, three data.
The 668 guide and count decoder handle the reply. An unfamiliar Zong entry means the disowning counter, mapped with every network’s channels on the by-network hub.
When the count looks wrong
- Count your devices before you panic. A Zong Mobile Broadband dongle, a portable Wi-Fi device and a data SIM in a tablet each hold a data slot, and people routinely forget all three.
- Disowning is cheap by rule. PTA capped the fee at Rs 200 on 1 January 2024, and waives it where fraud is involved.
- New SIMs carry a 365-day disowning and transfer lock, set by the PTA advisory of 24 May 2026. That applies to a Zong eSIM taken on a fresh number exactly as it applies to a plastic one.
