Check CNIC Details in Pakistan: What Your ID Card Number Really Shows

To check CNIC details in Pakistan, use NADRA’s Pak-ID app or id.nadra.gov.pk for online CNIC verification of your own card, and text your number to 8300 for your voter record. CNIC full form is Computerized National Identity Card, a unique 13-digit NADRA number. A stranger’s name, address and family stay private. Those ID card details are sealed, and looking them up by number is an offence. The wider SIM toolkit sits at Check SIM Owner Details Pakistan.

  • You cannot look up a stranger’s CNIC by number or mobile. PECA 2016 Section 16 makes it an offence.

Scope note: this page covers your own CNIC and your family’s records. Acting on a line or an identity that belongs to someone else is a separate matter. We draw that boundary precisely on our legality page.

CNIC full form: what do the 13 digits mean?

Check CNIC details Pakistan — verify your own CNIC via NADRA Pak-ID or 1777; a stranger’s CNIC or sim owner details cannot legally be looked up
NADRA channels only. Check your own CNIC details through official routes, never a stranger’s.

CNIC stands for Computerized National Identity Card. NADRA issues it to every Pakistani citizen aged eighteen and above, and each card carries a unique 13-digit number that is not random. The first five digits fix your location, from province down to union council. Digits six to twelve point to your family record. The final digit marks gender: odd for a man, even for a woman.

That middle block is the one your blood relatives share. So the digits tell a stranger only your rough area, a family serial and your sex.

SegmentDigitsWhat it encodes
First block5Province, division, district, tehsil and union council.
Middle block7Your family record and family-tree serial.
Last digit1Gender: odd is male, even is female.

This is why the phrase cnic number details can mislead. The digits decode to structure, not to a person. No part of the number spells out a name, a father’s name, an address or a photo. Those sit inside NADRA’s database, sealed. They reach only the cardholder, through official channels.

Which CNIC information and ID card details are public, and which stay private?

ID card details explained: a CNIC number decodes to location, family serial and gender only; name, address and photo stay private with NADRA
The 13 digits of a CNIC decode to location, family serial and gender. Personal details stay sealed at NADRA.

CNIC information splits in two. Only the structural half is public: anyone holding the number can decode province, family serial and gender from the pattern alone. The personal half is locked. Your name, parentage, home address, photo, fingerprints and family list all stay with NADRA, and they reach only the cardholder.

CNIC detailStatus
Province, district, tehsil, union councilDecodable from the number.
Family serialDecodable from the number.
GenderDecodable from the last digit.
Name and father’s namePrivate. NADRA holds it.
Home addressPrivate. NADRA holds it.
Photo and fingerprintsPrivate. NADRA holds it.
List of family membersPrivate. Your own FRC only.

If you fear that sealed data has already leaked, our guide to checking whether your CNIC data was breached shows how to tell. It also sets out what to do next.

Even the state services that read a CNIC respect that wall. Text your number to the Election Commission on 8300, and the reply names your electoral area, block code and serial. It leaves out your name, your parentage and your home address. That masking is the rule, not an accident.

No public website, app or SMS turns a bare CNIC into a stranger’s full ID card details, and there is no route to check an ID card by CNIC number for anyone but yourself. No lawful CNIC information service takes a number and hands back a person. None returns a photograph either. Any site offering to check CNIC details with picture is bluffing, because the image sits only in NADRA’s sealed record.

How to check CNIC details: your own NADRA record and ID card status

To check CNIC details for your own NADRA record, open the Pak-ID app or id.nadra.gov.pk and sign in with your own biometrics. That login is the official route for online CNIC verification, and it covers your card alone. Once inside, you can view your card status, renew an expired card, correct a spelling, or order a reprint.

Every route listed below is official. A helpline backs the app up: call NADRA on 1777 from a mobile, quote your tracking ID, and an agent reads your status back to you. Our CNIC tracking guide maps which channel answers which question, from application status to SIM counts. Each of these channels returns NADRA CNIC details for your own record only.

Official self-check routes

  • Pak-ID app / id.nadra.gov.pk — apply, renew, modify or reprint your card, and track any request.
  • NADRA helpline 1777 — or +92 51 111 786 100, for status and complaints.
  • SMS 8300 — the Election Commission voter line, for your polling area and serial.
  • SMS 668 or cnic.sims.pk — the SIMs registered on your own CNIC.

For your electoral record, the ID card details check runs through the Election Commission. Text your 13-digit CNIC, without dashes, to 8300. Your polling area and serial come back by return. For a CNIC number check online, stick to id.nadra.gov.pk — any “CNIC checker” website outside NADRA is unofficial, and many are scams. Keep one habit in mind. Renew before your card lapses, because an expired CNIC can drag your SIMs into a block sweep. We map that risk on the expired CNIC page.

Check your family records: the FRC

Family records have their own document, the Family Registration Certificate, or FRC. NADRA treats the FRC as a legal document in its own right, on par with the CNIC itself. It lists the members of your family and verifies each identity against the central record. You request it through the same Pak-ID app, and you follow it on the tracking ID printed on your receipt. People use it for inheritance, visa files, school admissions and pension paperwork. That is the lawful way to see your family details, and it only ever returns your own family.

Can you check a CNIC number with a mobile number?

No. You cannot pull a stranger’s CNIC out of their phone number. As of August 2026 no legal service in Pakistan maps a mobile number back to an owner’s identity card, and trying it can fall under Section 16 of PECA 2016. People search for a way to check a CNIC number with a mobile number, or CNIC information from a number alone. Both hit the same wall.

That wall also blocks anyone hoping to pull SIM owner details by number. Any site that claims otherwise, including the so-called pak sim data databases, is either lying or breaking the law. The lawful routes are listed in our guide to checking SIM owner details.

What you can do is the reverse, on your own line. To see which SIMs sit against your CNIC, text your 13-digit number to 668. You can also open the free cnic.sims.pk portal. The count and the operators come back in seconds. Our 668 guide and how-many-SIMs check walk through every step. If the total looks higher than expected, remember that PTA caps you at eight SIMs per CNIC. That ceiling is five voice and three data, and we break it down in the SIM limit guide. That direction is legal, because the CNIC is yours. The other direction, a stranger’s number to their identity, is not.

A firm line separates your records from someone else’s. It is not mere etiquette, because it is written into law. Under Section 16 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, access to another person’s identity information without lawful authority is an offence. It can bring up to three years in prison, a fine of up to five million rupees, or both. That is why no honest service offers a stranger lookup. If someone misuses your CNIC or identity, report it to the NCCIA cybercrime helpline on 1799 or at complaint.nccia.gov.pk. We set out the full statute, and the narrow lawful exceptions, on our PECA 2016 page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the full form of CNIC?

CNIC stands for Computerized National Identity Card. NADRA issues this 13-digit identity document to every Pakistani citizen from the age of eighteen. The number encodes your location, a family serial and your gender. Your name, address and photo stay sealed inside NADRA records, and they reach only you through official channels.

How do I check my own CNIC details online?

Use NADRA’s Pak-ID app or the id.nadra.gov.pk portal, and sign in with your own biometrics. From there you can view your card status, renew an expired card, correct a detail or reprint a lost card. For your voter record, text your 13-digit CNIC to 8300. To reach an agent, call NADRA on 1777.

Can I find someone’s CNIC number from their mobile number?

No. No lawful service in Pakistan maps a phone number back to an owner’s identity card. Trying it can fall under Section 16 of PECA 2016. You can only check the SIMs registered on your own CNIC, by texting your number to 668 or opening cnic.sims.pk. Your CNIC, your line, your right.

What does a CNIC number actually reveal?

Read in three blocks, the number shows structure only. The first five digits fix your location, from province to union council. The middle seven mark your family record. The last digit shows gender, odd for male and even for female. The number never spells out a name, an address or a family list.

How do I check my CNIC voter and polling details?

Text your 13-digit CNIC, without dashes, to 8300. This SMS line is run by the Election Commission of Pakistan with NADRA. The reply gives your electoral area, block code and serial number. To protect privacy, it leaves out your name, your parentage and your home address.

Is it legal to check another person’s ID card details?

No. Section 16 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 makes it an offence to access another person’s identity information without lawful authority. It carries up to three years in prison, a fine of up to five million rupees, or both. Only the cardholder, or an authorised body, may reach those details.

What shows up in an ID card details check by SMS?

An official ID card details check only ever covers your own record. Text your 13-digit CNIC to 8300 for your polling area, block code and serial, or to 668 for the SIMs registered against your card. Both replies mask names and addresses, so nobody can profile you from a bare number.

Can I get CNIC information with a number alone?

Only the structural part. From the 13 digits you can read a rough location, a family serial and gender, nothing more. Full CNIC information with a number, meaning a name, address or photo, sits sealed with NADRA. It is released only to the cardholder, never through public lookups.

Can you check an ID card by CNIC number?

Only your own. Sign in to NADRA’s Pak-ID app with your biometrics to see your card, or text your CNIC to 8300 for voter details and to 668 for SIMs. No service lets you check a stranger’s ID card by CNIC number; that lookup is an offence under PECA 2016 Section 16.

Can you check a CNIC number by name online?

No. Pakistan has no public name-to-CNIC search. NADRA’s citizen database cannot be queried by name from any website, app or SMS code, so a stranger’s CNIC number cannot be found this way. Only authorised bodies acting under law can run such records. Treat any site selling name searches as a scam.

How can I check CNIC details with a picture?

You cannot. No SMS code, website or app returns a cardholder’s photograph. The picture on a CNIC lives only inside NADRA’s sealed record, alongside the fingerprints. Services advertising CNIC details with picture are fakes, recycled leak data or outright offences under PECA 2016. Check only your own card through Pak-ID.
