Blocking and disowning: two different levers
Every block SIM on CNIC request resolves to one of two levers. Blocking tells the operator to stop service: calls end, SMS dies, the number goes silent. The registration, though, stays right where it was, on your CNIC. Disowning goes deeper, removing the SIM from your identity in the registry so it stops appearing when 668 or cnic.sims.pk counts your record. One is a switch, the other is an eraser.

The distinction matters because the 668 reply and the portal read the registry, so blocking alone can leave the entry visible in your count. Silence is not the same as erasure.
Which lever fits which problem
Lost or stolen SIM: block it the same day, then decide about a replacement at leisure. A SIM on your record you never bought: disown it, after confirming it through the action hub checks. Choose the smallest lever that actually solves your problem. Numbers left dormant too long can be recycled by operators, and reactivation terms vary between them, so read the reactivation guide before erasing anything you might want back.
The franchise visit, step by step
- Confirm the SIM’s operator from your 668 reply or the portal listing, and screenshot it with the date visible.
- Take your original CNIC to that operator’s franchise or service centre.
- At the counter, say the phrase “SIM disowning” and give the number or entry you want removed.
- Complete live biometric verification when asked; this step is what keeps the process in-person.
- Collect the reference slip or confirmation number before you leave.
- After a few days, re-run 668 and the portal to confirm the entry is gone.
Counter phrasing matters far more than it reasonably should. Ask vaguely and staff may route you into number-blocking instead, which leaves the registry entry alive; the words “SIM disowning” put you in the right queue with the right form. Guard the reference slip like a receipt for your identity.
The money and the clock
PTA capped the disowning fee at Rs 200 on 1 January 2024 and made it free where fraud is involved. Any counter quoting more than that is simply wrong. Show the rule, hold your ground, and take the outlet’s name to PTA’s 0800-55055 complaint line if the price refuses to fall.
The clock is newer than the cap. An advisory of 24 May 2026 locks newly issued SIMs against disowning and transfer for their first 365 days, a brake aimed at identity churn. For victims it changes the playbook: a brand-new fraud entry belongs in an NCCIA report on 1799 as much as at the counter. The earlier you file, the stronger your file.
Lost-SIM blocking: one call per network
Blocking is the half you can do from a sofa. Call the operator’s helpline, clear the identity questions, and ask for the SIM to be blocked; note the date, the agent and any confirmation number you are given.
