SCOM & ONIC SIM Check: the Two Networks Every Guide Skips
A SCOM SIM check works just like an ONIC, Jazz, or Zong one. SMS your 13-digit CNIC to 668 for about Rs 2, or open PTA’s free cnic.sims.pk portal. SCOM SIM check: the mountain operator
SCOM is not a private telco. It is the mobile arm of the Special Communications Organization, the state body behind phone links across Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. In many valleys it is the only signal there is, a group of users the big guides rarely write for.
Different owner, same rules. SCOM SIMs are tied to a CNIC by live biometric and sit in the same PTA SIM registry (real name: the SIM Information System 668; “SVMS” is a web nickname). They also count towards the national cap of eight lines, five voice plus three data.
Why the SCOM SIM check matters
A SCOM SIM check matters because SCOM lines sit in the same national SIM registry as every other operator’s. PTA’s telecom indicators put Pakistan at 208,057,255 mobile subscribers as of June 2026, with SCO holding 2,178,529 of them. A SIM sold in Skardu counts exactly like a Karachi line.
What is the SCOM helpline number?
The SCOM helpline is 355, answered around the clock from a SCOM number. From any other network the UAN is 111-726-726. SCO publishes no own-number USSD string, so number and account questions go through the SCO app or a customer service centre in Azad Kashmir or Gilgit-Baltistan, where the biometric steps also happen.

Step by step: count the SIMs on your CNIC
- Open your SMS app and type your CNIC as 13 digits, with no dashes.

- Read the list with care, and if a line is not yours, take your original CNIC to the franchise and disown it.
Two mistakes to avoid
- Reading the prefix as proof. A ported number keeps its old digits, so only 76367 gives the current network.
- Checking once a year. Once a month catches a new line early.
Is ONIC a separate network?
No. ONIC is not a seventh licence. It is an app-first brand of PTML, the company behind Ufone, and it rides the Ufone network, eSIM-first, with the whole service inside the Onic app. PTA published a clarification pinning that parentage at launch.
An ONIC line is a licensed operator’s SIM in the national registry, not an app-store experiment, and sign-up runs the live NADRA fingerprint match. So an ONIC eSIM shows in your 668 count like a plastic Ufone SIM, which reads its own number with the same Ufone number-check codes.
Who owns ONIC now?
PTML, the PTCL-group company behind Ufone, owns ONIC. PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan completed before an IHC-approved amalgamation folded that business into PTML around 1 July 2026. Brands and short codes stayed live through that move, so your ONIC SIM still answers on its own app and codes.
How do I check my ONIC number?
Check your ONIC number in the Onic app, which carries the entire ONIC service, support included. If the app is out of reach, ring one of your own handsets from the ONIC SIM and read the number on the screen. ONIC issues on 0339 and the 0371 to 0379 series, and to count every line on your CNIC, SMS those 13 digits to 668.

eSIM, biometric and the eight-SIM cap
An eSIM is not a loophole. ONIC activates one against your CNIC with the same live NADRA fingerprint match a plastic SIM needs. The cap is shared too: eight SIMs per CNIC, five voice plus three data, a limit the Supreme Court set on 5 November 2015.
Two timing rules also apply to a new line. A second new SIM taken in one go waits seven days for the NADRA check, in force since 24 January 2024. A brand-new SIM also cannot be disowned or transferred for 365 days.

Your SIM count comes from 668 or the free portal. A SIM in your hand answers to MNP on 667, and a number’s current network comes back from 76367. An entry you do not know gets disowned at the franchise, for a fee capped at Rs 200, waived in fraud. Owner name by number has no paid workaround either. If a SIM you do not know shows up
Act the same day and take your original CNIC to the franchise to disown the line. The fee is capped at Rs 200, and PTA waived it in fraud cases from 1 January 2024. If an unknown line does show up, leaked personal data may be how your CNIC got out, so take a minute to check your breach exposure too. For a cyber-crime complaint, NCCIA has run 1799 and complaint.nccia.gov.pk since 3 June 2025. The PTA helpline is 0800-55055, and its WhatsApp Digital Assistant on 0315-0055055 opened on 26 February 2026. Report spam and scam texts to 9000. Misusing another person’s identity data is an offence under PECA 2016 Section 16. It carries up to three years in prison, a fine up to Rs 5 million, or both.
