One Search Phrase, Four Very Different Intents
CNIC Tracking in Pakistan: What It Really Means, and What Works
CNIC tracking lawfully means three things in Pakistan: following your own NADRA ID card application, counting the SIMs registered against your own CNIC, and confirming that your own record is current. No lawful service traces a stranger through their CNIC. For applications, NADRA’s channels are SMS code 8400, the Pak-ID app and the 1777 helpline. For SIMs, the channels are 668 and cnic.sims.pk, the same official pair behind Check SIM Owner Details Pakistan. Everything else sold under this phrase either recycles old leaked records or returns nothing at all, and taking another person’s identity information is an offence under Section 16 of PECA 2016.
Key takeaways
- CNIC tracking has three lawful readings: your NADRA application status, the SIM count on your own CNIC, and your own record checks. All three answer only for you.
- NADRA’s own SMS Services page listed 8400 as the code for “tracking identity applications”. You send the tracking ID printed on your application receipt.
- NADRA’s homepage, checked 29 July 2026, names Pak-ID as its official mobile application for identity registration, updates and service tracking.
- The NADRA helpline is 1777, listed as 24/7. From abroad, or from a landline, the number is +92-51-111-786-100.
- The SIM side of the phrase runs on SMS code 668, about Rs 2 including tax, and the free cnic.sims.pk portal. Each answers for the CNIC you send, about you.
- No public system in Pakistan locates a person, or a phone, by CNIC number. Section 16 of PECA 2016 carries up to 3 years in prison, a fine up to Rs 5,000,000, or both.
- PTA reported 1,372 personal-data sites and apps blocked by September 2025, and an NCCIA-led action blocked 139 more platforms in October 2025.
This page separates the four intents packed into one search phrase. It gives the official channel for each lawful reading, with dates on every claim we verified. It then gives you a short checklist for the unlawful reading, because that is the one sold hardest online.

What does CNIC tracking actually mean?

CNIC tracking means one of four things, depending on who is typing it. Three have official answers that speak only about you: NADRA tracks applications through 8400, Pak-ID and 1777, while PTA counts the SIMs on your CNIC through 668 and cnic.sims.pk. The fourth, finding a stranger through their CNIC, has no lawful answer at all; Section 16 of PECA 2016 makes it an offence.
- Tracking a NADRA application. You applied for a new CNIC, a renewal, a reprint or a NICOP, and you want to know where the card is. This is courier-style tracking of your own paperwork, and NADRA runs it through 8400, the Pak-ID app and the 1777 helpline.
- Tracking the SIMs on your CNIC. You want the count of mobile connections registered in your name, network by network. PTA runs this through SMS code 668 and the cnic.sims.pk portal.
- Confirming your record is current. An expired card quietly breaks other services. PTA advised in April 2026 that 8.1 million SIMs were running on expired CNICs, so checking your own expiry date is tracking worth doing.
- Tracing another person by CNIC. This reading does not exist lawfully. No public system returns a location, an address or an owner profile from a CNIC number, and Section 16 of PECA 2016 criminalizes obtaining another person’s identity information.
Pages that promise to track CNIC details of somebody else are selling the fourth reading. They cannot deliver it from any lawful source, and the last two sections of this page show what they actually do instead.
How does NADRA CNIC tracking work for an application?

Track a NADRA application three ways. Send the tracking ID printed on your application receipt by SMS to 8400, sign in to the Pak-ID app or id.nadra.gov.pk, or call the 1777 helpline, listed as 24/7 on nadra.gov.pk as of 29 July 2026. Each channel reports on applications filed against your own identity, and none needs a third-party website.
8400, in NADRA’s own words
OfficialNADRA’s SMS Services page listed 8400 under exactly this label: “tracking identity applications”. NADRA rebuilt its website and retired that page, so on 29 July 2026 we verified the wording against the page’s last archived working copy, dated 30 May 2024, held by the Internet Archive. The code sits alongside NADRA’s other SMS lines, including 8300 for election system verification.
The tracking ID is on the receipt, often called a token, that you get when you apply at a NADRA centre or online. Send that ID on its own in the SMS, from a Pakistani mobile number, and keep the receipt until the card is in your hand. If the ID is lost, the helpline can trace your application from your identity details instead.
Pak-ID is the channel NADRA itself points to today. Its homepage, which we checked on 29 July 2026, describes Pak-ID as NADRA’s official mobile application for “identity registration, updates and service tracking”. The same account that files a renewal or a NICOP application also shows that application’s progress, and the web version at id.nadra.gov.pk mirrors the app.
The helpline completes the set. Dial 1777 from a Pakistani mobile, listed as answering 24/7 on the same date, or +92-51-111-786-100 from a landline or from abroad. It handles status questions, lost tracking IDs and delay complaints in one call.
How do you track the SIMs on your own CNIC?
Send your 13-digit CNIC, without dashes, by SMS to 668. The reply lists how many SIMs each network holds against that CNIC, and the message costs about Rs 2 including tax. The free alternative is cnic.sims.pk, PTA’s SIM Information System, which works from anywhere in the world.
The portal shows more than the SMS does, including activation dates, and it accepts NICOP and POC numbers as well as CNICs. Our SIM Information System portal guide walks through each screen, and the 668 SIM check page decodes the reply format every network uses. For the wider map of what a number, a SIM or a CNIC each lawfully return, see our SIM information overview.
This half of CNIC tracking matters because the stakes are personal. Pakistan’s active SIMs stood at 208,057,255 as of June 2026, per PTA’s telecom indicators, and the Supreme Court capped each CNIC at 8 SIMs, 5 voice and 3 data, on 5 November 2015. Every SIM in that count is your legal responsibility until it is disowned.
If the count shows a connection you never bought, disown it at a franchise. PTA capped the disowning fee at Rs 200 on 1 January 2024, and the fee is waived where fraud is shown. The full set of lawful self-checks, including this one, sits in our check CNIC details guide.
Which CNIC tracking channel does what?
NADRA’s channels track applications: 8400 takes the tracking ID from your receipt, Pak-ID shows progress in its dashboard, and 1777 handles calls. PTA’s pair counts SIMs: 668 answers by SMS for about Rs 2, and cnic.sims.pk does it free from anywhere. SMS 8300 is election verification only. Every official channel accepts one input and returns one narrow answer, about you. That narrowness is the design, not a flaw.
| Channel | You send | You get back | Cost and notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMS 8400 | The tracking ID from your NADRA application receipt | Status of your own CNIC, NICOP or POC application | NADRA’s listed code for tracking identity applications |
| Pak-ID app and id.nadra.gov.pk | Your Pak-ID account sign-in | Application progress and service tracking in one dashboard | NADRA’s official app, per nadra.gov.pk on 29 July 2026 |
| Helpline 1777 | A phone call and your identity details | Application status, lost tracking IDs, delay complaints | Listed 24/7; +92-51-111-786-100 from abroad or landlines |
| SMS 668 | Your 13-digit CNIC, no dashes | SIM count against that CNIC, network by network | About Rs 2 including tax; PTA-official |
| cnic.sims.pk | Your CNIC, NICOP or POC, plus a captcha | The same SIM count with activation dates | Free, works worldwide; PTA’s SIM Information System |
| SMS 8300 | Your own CNIC | Election system verification | A voter line, often confused with CNIC tracking |
| Any “CNIC tracker” promising a stranger’s name or location | Somebody else’s CNIC, plus often a fee | Recycled or invented data, or nothing | No lawful source exists; Section 16 of PECA 2016 applies |
Read the input column carefully. Every legitimate row accepts either your own identifier or your own sign-in. The moment a service happily accepts a CNIC that is not yours, you have left the official map entirely.
Can CNIC location tracking find a person?

No. No public website, app or SMS code in Pakistan returns a person’s location, movements or address from a CNIC number. The systems that link SIMs to CNICs sit inside PTA, NADRA and the operators, and their two public windows, 668 and cnic.sims.pk, answer only about the CNIC you send, which must be yours.
So what do CNIC location tracking sellers actually deliver? At best, recycled fragments of old breaches. Dawn reported in March 2024 that a Joint Investigation Team found records of about 2.7 million citizens compromised between 2019 and 2023. Stale copies of that material circulate under fresh labels, which is why a lookup can show an address its subject left years ago. You can check your own breach exposure to see whether your record is in that pile.
The state has been shutting these shops steadily. PTA reported 1,372 personal-data sites and apps blocked by September 2025, and an NCCIA-led operation blocked 139 more platforms in October 2025. The claims themselves fail on physics too, because a CNIC is a number on a card, not a radio. Our live SIM tracker page takes that promise apart in detail.
The law is the sharpest edge. Obtaining, selling or transmitting another person’s identity information without authorisation is an offence under Section 16 of PECA 2016, punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a fine up to Rs 5,000,000, or both. The full statute, and what counts as identity information, is on our PECA 2016 legality page. Using a tracker on somebody else is not a grey area. It is the offence itself.
How do you spot a fake CNIC tracker app?
One test settles most cases in seconds: whose CNIC does it ask for? Every official channel in Pakistan, from NADRA’s 8400 and Pak-ID to PTA’s 668 and cnic.sims.pk, accepts your own identifier or your own sign-in, and nothing else. A CNIC tracker that invites somebody else’s number fails that test immediately, and seven red flags catch the rest.
- It accepts a CNIC that is not yours. The one-question test. Official systems answer about the sender, so a stranger-lookup box is the giveaway, not a feature.
- It promises live location or family details. No public system holds either, and no app can conjure a feed that does not exist.
- It arrives as an APK outside Google Play. A status check needs no access to your contacts, messages or storage. Sideloaded tracker apps ask anyway.
- Its ratings are typed into the page. Stars and install counts written as ordinary text are decoration. Only a real store listing carries a verifiable rating.
- Nobody is named. No company, no address, no person on the About page. NADRA and PTA both say exactly who they are.
- A teaser result, then a fee. A partial answer followed by payment for the full profile is the oldest shape in this trade.
- “Fresh 2026 database” wording. Test it against a SIM issued last week. Recycled breach data cannot answer, because no live public feed exists.
Report what you find. PTA takes web complaints at complaint.pta.gov.pk and calls at 0800-55055, and its WhatsApp Digital Assistant on 0315-0055055 has run since 26 February 2026. For data-selling and impersonation, NCCIA takes reports on 1799 and at complaint.nccia.gov.pk. Forward spam SMS to 9000.
Frequently asked questions
What is CNIC tracking?
CNIC tracking covers three lawful checks in Pakistan: following your own NADRA application through 8400, Pak-ID or 1777, counting the SIMs registered on your own CNIC through 668 or cnic.sims.pk, and confirming your own card is current. No lawful version reveals another person’s information.
How do I track my NADRA CNIC application status?
Send the tracking ID printed on your application receipt by SMS to 8400, NADRA’s listed code for tracking identity applications. You can also sign in to the Pak-ID app or id.nadra.gov.pk, or call the 1777 helpline, which is listed as answering 24/7 from Pakistani mobiles.
How do I check how many SIMs are on my CNIC?
SMS your 13-digit CNIC, without dashes, to 668 for about Rs 2 including tax, and the reply lists the count per network. The free cnic.sims.pk portal shows the same record with activation dates, works worldwide, and accepts NICOP and POC numbers too.
Can I track someone’s location using their CNIC number?
No. No public system in Pakistan returns a location, an address or movements from a CNIC number. Obtaining another person’s identity information is an offence under Section 16 of PECA 2016, punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a fine up to Rs 5,000,000, or both.
Is there an official NADRA app for CNIC tracking?
Yes. NADRA’s homepage, checked 29 July 2026, names Pak-ID as its official mobile application for identity registration, updates and service tracking, on Google Play and the App Store. Any other CNIC tracker app that promises other people’s details is not from NADRA.
What is the NADRA helpline for CNIC tracking?
Dial 1777 from a Pakistani mobile. When we checked nadra.gov.pk on 29 July 2026, the helpline was listed as 24/7, with +92-51-111-786-100 as the phone line for landlines and callers abroad. Keep the tracking ID from your receipt ready before you call.
Roman Urdu mein
CNIC tracking ke teen jaiz matlab hain. Pehla, apni NADRA application ka pata karna: receipt wali tracking ID SMS karein 8400 par, ya Pak-ID app kholein, ya 1777 helpline par call karein. Doosra, apne CNIC par SIMs ginna: 13-digit CNIC bina dash ke 668 par SMS karein, taqreeban Rs 2 mein, ya cnic.sims.pk muft kholein. Teesra, apna card current rakhna, kyunke April 2026 mein PTA ne bataya ke 8.1 million SIMs expired CNICs par chal rahi theen.
Chautha matlab, kisi aur ka CNIC track karna, kisi qanooni system mein maujood hi nahi. Koi website ya app kisi bandey ki location ya address CNIC se nahi nikal sakti. Kisi doosre ki identity information lena PECA 2016 ke Section 16 ke tehat jurm hai, jis ki saza 3 saal tak qaid, Rs 5,000,000 tak jurmana, ya dono hai. Sirf apna CNIC check karein.
