Why is there no official SIM owner details app?
Because the data is locked by design. A registered SIM’s link to a CNIC exists in three systems only: PTA’s verification records, NADRA’s records, and the issuing operator’s own files. PTA opens narrow windows into that data, and every window answers for the CNIC you send, about you. An app that names strangers would need a feed that no law allows and no authority publishes.
Look at the shape of the official channels. The SIM Information System at cnic.sims.pk is a website you open in a browser. The codes 668, 667 and 76367 are SMS short codes that work from any phone, including a basic handset with no apps at all. The newest channel, PTA’s Digital Assistant, launched on 26 February 2026, runs inside WhatsApp on 0315-0055055. Not one of these is an APK file, and not one asks you to install anything.
That design is deliberate. An SMS code needs no permissions, stores nothing on your device, and cannot read your contacts. A browser page forgets you when you close the tab. The moment a “checker” arrives as an installable file instead, it gains a foothold those channels were built to avoid.
Demand explains the rest. PTA’s telecom indicators put Pakistan at 208,057,255 active mobile subscribers as of June 2026. Behind many of those SIMs is somebody curious about an unknown caller. Every “sim owner details app download” button is aimed at that curiosity, and the apps behind those buttons answer to nobody.

So where do the convincing-looking results come from? Recycled leak material, mostly years old. Dawn reported in March 2024 that a Joint Investigation Team found records of about 2.7 million citizens compromised between 2019 and 2023. And the traffic runs both ways. Every CNIC and every phone number you type into a checker app is a fresh, current record for whoever operates it. You arrive as a user and leave as an entry.
Pak SIM database APK: which permissions are red flags?
Contacts, SMS reading, accessibility control and display-over-apps are the red-flag permissions: a lookup form needs an internet connection and nothing else. Two or more of these requests together is a decision, not a judgement call. Decline, uninstall, and check what other sideloaded apps hold the same grants in your permission manager. Have these apps been blocked before?
Yes, in bulk. PTA reported 1,372 sites, apps and pages blocked for trading personal data by September 2025. The following month, an NCCIA-led operation dismantled 139 more platforms across apps, websites and social media. Enforcement keeps returning to this trade because demand never stops feeding it.
The law reaches users, not just sellers. Obtaining another person’s identity information is an offence under Section 16 of PECA 2016, and the penalty runs to 3 years in prison, Rs 5,000,000 in fines, or both. Blocking also explains the churn you see in search results. A sim owner details APK named in one enforcement round reappears under a fresh name, a new icon, and the same recycled data behind the form. Uninstall the app first, run a Google Play Protect scan, then revoke any leftover permissions. After that, change the passwords you typed on that phone and check your own CNIC by SMS to 668 or at cnic.sims.pk. The six steps below take about fifteen minutes in total.
- Uninstall it. Open Settings, then Apps, find the checker and remove it. If the uninstall button is grayed out, open Security settings, remove the app’s Device admin rights first, then uninstall.
- Scan the phone. Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Play Protect and run a scan. Let it remove anything it flags.
- Revoke leftovers. In Settings, open the permission manager and review contacts, SMS, accessibility and display-over-apps. Withdraw every grant held by an app you do not recognise.
- Protect your accounts. Change the passwords you typed on that phone, starting with email and banking. Watch for one-time passcodes you did not request, and call your bank if one arrives.
- Check your own CNIC. SMS your CNIC to 668, or open cnic.sims.pk. If the count is wrong, remember the cap is 8 SIMs per CNIC, 5 voice and 3 data, and start the disowning process the same day.
